Veggie meal

We had a meal tonight which included 10 vegetables from the garden! Stuffed courgette with salad and potatoes. The courgette was no 1 stuffed using tomatoes and poblano pepper. The salad included pea shoots, radishes, radish pods, chives, garlic chive flowers, strawberries and my Nicola potatoes, which were very good.

Potting peppers and squashes

I potted up a custard white squash today and left it in the greenhouse for the night. One of the peppers got potted on too. That one stayed in the conservatory. I intend to do the rest of the peppers and squashes into pots over the next few days.

I applied Nemaslug to my beds today. Will it work?

Another sunny day!

Lovely weather today. I spent most of it potting and sowing. I potted up seven pepper plants. The one which I overwintered already has two one-inch green peppers on it! I sowed 40 carrots into a trough for outdoor growing, James Scarlet. My earlier sown carrots have gone outdoors as well now. Early pak choy are now potted on in the greenhouse.

Sweet peppers

I sowed some sweet pepper seeds in the first week of February. They are in 2 inch peat pots, with my mix of seed compost. There are two seeds in each pot. One old, one new! - 3 pots of shop Ramiros and 3 of California Wonder. I saved some seed from a late maturing small pepper for the new seeds. I wonder what the germination will be like.
Notes: First one up (a Ramiro) on 23 Feb.and by 27th two of each variety were up.
28th Feb. Sowed 10 potlets, 3 seeds each of Ramiro for Steyning Museum sale on April 9th. Up on 12th March.

Peppers repotted

The peppers have gone into their final pots.  I used my home made potting mix (50:50 leaf mould and garden compost). Two plants are staying in the conservatory and three have gone to the greenhouse. I'll be comparing the performance of California Wonder with my shop-bought Ramiro seeds.

Pepper pots!

Yesterday I potted up the five pepper seedlings. I used John Innes No 2 compost in 5 inch pots to grow them on for a while - should not need feeding for about 6 weeks.

March Sowings

I sowed my tomato seeds yesterday. 4 varieties - Black Russian, San Marzano, Tumbling Tom and Gardeners' Delight - 3 of each in fibre pots.  Today I sowed spring onion; 12 modules, rocket Rucola; 4 modules, rocket Dragons Tongue; 4 modules and land cress; 4 modules, all in a 24 module tray. And another 24 module tray of larkspur. Both trays left in the greenhouse to germinate along with the trough of leaf beet I sowed as well.

My Ramiro peppers have all come up today - no sign of the California Wonder yet though. (Update - the first California Wonder came up one day later!)

Potatoes and peppers

I set up the potatoes for chitting in my conservatory a couple of days ago. Two kg each of Rocket and King Edward. They already had small sprouts.

Today I sowed seed for my sweet peppers. Three jiffies each for supermarket Ramiro seeds and California Wonder. Two seeds in each jiffie. Ramiro have always done well in the conservatory. 21 peppers off one plant last year between August and November.
