Seedlings

The first carrot seedling was up yesterday in the conservatory and the leek seedlings (below) are growing on!  Also - I sowed 4 sweet pea seeds in pots in the conservatory today. Let's see if they germinate.

Potatoes and peppers

I set up the potatoes for chitting in my conservatory a couple of days ago. Two kg each of Rocket and King Edward. They already had small sprouts.

Today I sowed seed for my sweet peppers. Three jiffies each for supermarket Ramiro seeds and California Wonder. Two seeds in each jiffie. Ramiro have always done well in the conservatory. 21 peppers off one plant last year between August and November.

Carrots

Carrots sown on Friday 13th! That's tempting fate. Seventeen stations of James Scarlet Intermediate sown in a trough in my conservatory. The trough has a base filling of garden compost, then a layer of New Horizon compost topped off with a sieved layer of New Horizon. Three seeds in each station.

I got a good early crop from this trough last year.

Leeks!

Sowed 23rd January in my slightly heated conservatory. First seedlings showing today after 16 days. Could that be because I moved them nearer the heat  two days ago?

Seeds

My seed orders arrived this week - from Moreveg, Simply Seeds and Higgledy Garden. I can't wait to start sowing - but there's still hard frost outside!

I plan to start with leeks in cells at the weekend.

The New Year

The year has begun and preparation has started in the garden. I've got four new beds prepared for this year. One of them already has autumn planting of elephant garlic growing taller and the winter portion of last year's perpetual spinach is staying on until I need the ground. I'm hoping the new beds will give me better crops than I had last year!
